1850 – Following the urgent request of the New York Yacht Club, George Steers creates plans for America.
1851 – To meet the challenge of the Royal Yacht Squadron, the schooner America is engaged in the Hundred Guinea Cup race race, race 53 miles around the Isle of Wight.
It easily beats the English ship and won the cup.
The America returns to New York Yacht Club and the cut will be renamed the America’sCup.
1863 – In the 12 years that followed, America belong to different owners of the two sides of the Atlantic.
1870 – The America participates the America’sCup and finished 4th out of 15 engaged.
1901 – The America participates in its 51st and final race.
During the 15 years that followed, she was kept in Boston.
1921 – After years in the hands of various owners, America returned to the Naval Academy.
1940 – The America already in poor condition is stored in a hangar Annapolis Yacht Yard throughout the Second World War.
1942 – Significant snowfall cause damage.
The remaining parts were used to make a reproduction of the ship, exposed to the National Naval Museum.
